At times, when someone wrongs us and we struggle to forgive, a storm of emotions can rise within. That pain feels heavy—and if we do not tend to it, it can shape how we think, respond, and relate to others.

But here is a gentle truth: we can choose to pause.

When negative emotions begin to stir, pause. That small act can protect you from impulsive choices and lead you toward thoughtful, grounded responses in difficult moments.

Pay attention to how your body reacts. Notice your most sensitive triggers. Recognize your usual response when hurt. These simple steps build your ability to pause with purpose.

As you grow in this, your choices begin to reflect your core values and long-term goals. You respond with clarity—not from pain. You step into peace, not reaction.

Each pause becomes a moment of growth. Over time, it leads to deeper healing, stronger relationships, and a more resilient heart.

Tony Gambill once said,
“The ability to pause is the key. Pause when emotions rise, and you protect yourself from reaction while you move toward a wise response.”

He also reminds us:
“The goal is to grow your ability to manage emotions—so they inform you, not define you.”

So let me gently ask:
How do you respond when life tests you and emotions rise?
