What happens when you offer someone forgiveness, but they will not receive it? The Bible calls us to continue to love that person. But can you still love them? Can you trust God enough to overcome this difficult situation?
I know it can still hurt. You may feel disappointed and even experience stress. But here is the question: can you release that situation to God? We can only control our own actions and responses. What we can do for ourselves is release the burden this places on us. Ultimately, it comes down to this: can you love them and let God handle the situation in His time and in His way?
Please remember this truth: you are not responsible for the other person's decision not to accept your apology and forgiveness.
Yet, have you taken time to consider how deeply you may have hurt them? Perhaps they are unable to accept your forgiveness because you may not fully realize how deeply they were hurt by your actions. This is where we need to step into their shoes for a moment and see through their eyes.
"So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 7:12, ESV)
Stay faithful in prayer. If you are able, write them a letter or email to express how truly sorry you are. Reflect on this verse: "If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all." (Romans 12:18, ESV)
What if your peace comes not from their acceptance, but from your complete surrender to God?
