When someone betrays us at work, within family, or among friends, no matter how harmful their actions may have been, should we be capable of forgiveness?

Consider this: forgiveness does not really start with that person. As a child, I would get upset with a friend. When I became an adult, this did not change. I would still become hurt by someone's actions.

What would happen if I realized that forgiveness does not start with the person who has betrayed me? Instead, it starts with me and focuses on God before I look at anyone else.

Think about it. Who is in pain more, you or the other person? Who has gotten over the pain, them or you? Who dwells on the hurt and betrayal, you or them?

Have you ever thought that God would get you through this hurt and pain? He probably could if you give it all to Him. It would be a relief, and you would find peace from this burden that has weighed you down.

Here is the real question: What if the path to your freedom starts not with them, but with you and God?
