Happy New Year! As we step into 2026, I hope this year brings you joy, peace, and countless blessings. May it be a year of growth, healing, and beautiful new beginnings for you and those you love.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. As I reflect on the recent holidays, I think about some individuals who mentioned to me they were alone during this time. Sometimes it is family that no longer speaks to them or wants anything to do with them.
For those who have forgiven how they were treated, sometimes the other person has not moved on from that moment. This brings up an important question: what does it truly mean to forgive and forget?
Here is one truth: we learn from the pain and hurt we experience. We have to set healthy boundaries for ourselves without allowing that experience to define the entire relationship. We also must not allow the hurt to be used as a weapon against us.
The phrase "forgive and forget" is not written in the Bible. But consider this verse: "As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us." (Psalm 103:12, ESV)
Jesus took care of those sins on the cross. As you have been forgiven, so you are able to forgive others. The pain of this hurt keeps you from healing because of a misunderstanding about the gospel, which saves, sanctifies, and glorifies us.
Give the pain up to God through prayer for His help to move forward from this pain. Sometimes we cannot do it alone, and that is okay.
What if the freedom to heal begins when you let God carry the pain?
