There are times when you say something mean or cruel to a loved one. You go to bed with it heavy on your heart, but when you wake the next morning, you know you did something wrong to that person. You go to them and tell them you are sorry for the mean words you said and the attitude you had in that moment.
Then you understand this is not how you should treat someone else. There are moments when you act terribly, when you are caught up in the heat of the moment and do not stop yourself from words that hurt. Later, you realize you allowed your anger to overpower you and control how you acted.
In your prayer, this truth comes to you. Or perhaps a sermon you hear speaks to you about the wrong you have done. How do we move forward from this? We must always remember the words from the Lord's prayer: "And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors." (Matthew 6:12, ESV)
Ask for forgiveness from that loved one, just as God forgives you.
What if the apology you fear to give is the one that heals both your hearts?
